Crochet Snowflake #22

I can't believe that it is the last week of August already and I've not had time to work on any of my craft projects. Too much fun!

Here is my newest snowflake. I have also written the instructions about sugar and water stiffeners. This is the same recipe that my grandmother used to stiffen her rock hard doilies, like the ones that are stiff baskets. I like this recipe for snowflakes because I like them when they are crystal hard.

Next time I make a doily I will take pictures of what it looks like when I've got it all stretched and pinned.

Vintage Crochet Roses Doily

I've added some pictures of a Roses Doily crocheted by my  grandmother.

One of one of my favorite memories is my grandmother coming to visit with her crochet. She always had a project on the go and I have become the same. I always have a project going, usually more than one.

Paper Snowflakes

It seems to be a natural that I should have a page about making paper snowflakes. This one is done with gold tissue paper. I've make them large and small out of paper, silver Mylar and tissue paper.

Crochet Snowflake # 15

This is a fun new snowflake. The word has gone out to my friends that I am crocheting snowflakes and they are all bringing me their snowflakes. This one came from a good friend of mine. Of course I changed it some.

If you want to see the pattern it is:

Crochet Snowflake # 14

Here is my newest Crochet Snowflake Pattern. It is a smallish one, but quite pretty. I just started playing last night while I was watching T.V. That is my favorite way to work, just trying a few things until I get something I like.

The Free Pattern is found at Crochet Snowflake Pattern

Crochet Snowflake

Today I've added a  new Crocheted Snowflake to my set of crochet snowflake patterns. I would rate it as medium in difficulty. It is always good to try more difficult snowflakes to improve crochet skills.

Knitted Hat with Pom Pom

Today I added a new pattern to my Flowers and Furbelows Section for a Knitted Hat with instructions on How to Make Pom Poms

I particularly enjoy working with a mixture of yarns. If I am running short of yarn, I check out some of our local Thrift Shops for remnants of other people's projects.

This means that you can choose colour themes at a reasonable cost for the yarn. Right now I'm looking for yarn for a afghan. It takes a little longer to find because I need larger quantities.

Chunky Knitted Scarf with Fringe

My new page in Flowers & Furbelows is a version of the first scarf that I ever knitted. I remember being so into it that I would continue knitting in the dark after my mom sent me to bed. I worked that hard on all the projects that I was interested in.

The pattern for the knitted scarf and instructions for how to make the knotted fringe are found at Easy Knitted Scarf with Knotted Fringe

Clothing ......Redesign & Rescue

I've re-invented my pages on Creative Mending and I am calling them, 'Redesign & Rescue.' because my Creative Mending ideas are really about Redesign rather than just fixing a hole. The end product is a garment that would have been retired to the garbage, but has a new and different life.

I've added two projects about Over Dyeing Garments. Colour is a fundamental change to the original vision of the garment and the way it works in your wardrobe.

On the right is my Roses Sweater, no longer in black, grey and white, can be seen at

Quilted Mardi Gras Masks

I have removed the previous posts about my Mardi Gras Masks and moved them to a new section of my website fabact.co, called Out of the Box. I've pondered this for a while because they do not fit well into an Interior Design Section, which I do not have and yet I hesitate to call them Art, with a capital A.

The Out of the Box Designation will allow me to show many different things including my Inflatable Sculptures and other odd things that I have done over the years.

If you wish to see my original pictures and diary about making them, you can see them at Mardi Gras Quilted Masks
